Stemette (n): a female who has the capacity to go into one or more of the STEM fields. We're showing the next generation that girls do Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, too. Our mission is to inspire the next generation of females into Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) fields by showing them the amazing women already in STEM via a series of panel events, hackathons, exhibitions, and mentoring schemes.
What we do:
- We run panel events. Meet amazing women in STEM:
Hear from women about their amazing roles within STEM, their stories and their advice for you, the next generation. We always include refreshments, quizzes and prizes as well as a bit of fun and some goody bags. Have a look at our June panel and March panel, or watch the video from our October panel.
- We run hackathons. Make techy stuff with us:
Laptops, Prizes, Presentations and Mentors all thrown together with Wi-Fi and food over 2 days. We'll teach you all you need to know to create your own mobile app, game or website and then you can enter our 'Demo Day' competition on your own or in a team. Check our Demo Day at the Barbican centre and video of our Oxford hack.
- We run exhibitions too. Come and *do* STEM:
Try out some Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths with our Stemettes. Perhaps you'll 3D print a necklace, choreograph a dance with a robot or even separate some nuclear substances. Check out what happened at our 2013 Stemettes show at the Crystal in Docklands.
