Leader Spotlight: Tierza Eichner of Pura Vida Adventures

Q: Where do you live?

A. Malpais, Costa Rica and Bend, Oregon

Q: Tell us about your organization.

A. Pura Vida Adventures is a surf and yoga retreat in Costa Rica that is mainly for adult women. Since 2004, we’ve made it our mission to spread our love of surfing, love of yoga, love of Costa Rica, and love of life with the world. We believe that the combination of surfing, yoga and exploring a new country is an amazing foundation for growth and transformation. You are truly immersed in Mother Nature while surfing; you can feel her pulse and feel more one with the universe and other people. We believe in community and bringing women together to empower each other, share stories and create bonds for life.

Q: What is the one piece of advice you would like to share with other women looking to start an organization?

A. Feel the fear and do it anyways. Starting your own business and especially abroad can be very daunting and scary. But what I learned is that you have to persevere through your fear, belief in yourself and not internalize the fears or doubts of others. Realize that the worst thing that can happen is that you never tried. I feel like the “what if's” and regrets can haunt you and make you question yourself. Your intuition and gut will know if it is right. The empowering part of starting your own business is that you did it and can watch something you created grow.

Q: How can WorldWideWomen readers get involved in what you are doing?

A. They can check out our website at www.puravidaadventures.com.

Q: Who is the greatest female influence in your life?

A. Brené Brown - There are so many others, but I have learned a lot from her TedTalks and I believe vulnerability is the key to being more connected to people.

Q: Please share with us something that you want other women around the world to hear.

A. Love each other for who we are. Don't be afraid to ask for help. We are all in this world together.
