Q: Where do you live?
A. County Durham, United Kingdom.
Q: Tell us about your organization.
A. Just forWomen Centre was founded in January 2011 as a small independent not-for-profit organisation to help women in our communities who suffer mental health issues, victims/survivors of domestic/historic abuse, and any woman who has been through trauma. Empowering our clients is at the root of our philosophy and mission.
We welcome all women and provide support and assistance in a non-judgmental, non-threatening environment that gives each women the opportunity to be heard. The service is run by women for women to educate women through seminars and workshops at the centre, respect all cultures and differences, and enable women to have a voice through the provision of opportunity, knowledge and support. We have a fantastic free counseling service. We also run crafting therapy courses which are very popular. In addition to being featured in several books, we do regular radio and tv interviews and a short award winning documentary was about our ogranisation made several years ago.
Q: What is the one piece of advice you would like to share with other women looking to start an organization?
A. Women are key to empowering other women and I believe this concept is essential to creating strong, courageous and inspirational women who can mentor others. Working for an organisation set up to educate on health and wellbeing, healthy relationships, self worth and empowerment, as well as using life experiences to help others is a rewarding experience and can make significant changes in society.
Q: How can WorldWideWomen readers get involved in what you are doing?
A. We will be setting up a blog page on our newly designed website, and if anyone would like information, we will send our brochure of services and share client stories to give an understanding to women about the work we do.
Q: Who is the greatest female influence in your life?
A. My mother was my role model.
Q: Please share with us something that you want other women around the world to hear.
A. As women, we need to utilise our individual talents, strengths, ideas, visions and creativity in order to support and establish new ways to expand our networks. For those women just starting on their new journey, make good choices and find inspiring mentors and role models. Journal all of your ideas -- whatever comes into your mind -- you never know, it could be your business in the future. Use all of that curiosity you have to explore and learn. Always trust your instincts, live your life and celebrate your achievements.
